Each party member has access to unique abilities known as skills. These can have a wide variety of effects, but generally follow a theme consistent to the character. Skills are also not gained as regular abilities, but rather by using his/her skill command repeatedly. Skills are available regardless of placement on the grid.
Repetitive usage of the skill command will render it unavailable for a number of rounds. For example, using a skill three times in succession (that is, when the command is available) will render it unavailable for 3 turns.
The power of each skill is magnified through player input. The method is consistent to each character. By perfecting this input, the player gets to select an additional skill to be performed during the character's turn, assuming the command is available as a chain will count as a repetitive usage. This method is known as a skill chain. A skill chain is performed until the command becomes unavailable or the player fails to complete an input.
